I have a 93 f250 and the transfer case seems to be leaking out the hole where the 4x4 shift lever goes in at the top. Is there a gasket in there? I can't really see and haven't found much info online or a diagram of what's up there? Also what type of fluid should I fill that with? Same as the rear end it's leaking but I know it's just the gasket. But which fluid do I use there? Thanks.
If your truck has an auto transmission, it is possible that some ATF if leaking into the transfer case and over-filling it.
Check the fluid level in the transfer case by removing the fill plug. The ATF level should be even with this plug. Drain the excess fluid out and see if that solves the problem. If the level continues to increase you will have to replace the seal that's between the transmission and transfer case.
