when I flip the switch from off to on, theres this ticking sound??? is it the solinoid? or is something loose somewhere. Any help would be great thanks in advance, knuck
Its possible that you may have an eltric fuel pump working in the background that you were unaware of.
Then again it could be something else, get someone else to turn on the switch for you while you are under the hood and try to locate it. Just a thought that may save you a lot of headaches, or maybe discover something you were unaware of, god luck.
5star, I do have a elec fuel pump. Yet it NEVER did this before. when I start it up it go.s away. But before I start it, switching form off to on is when it happins. WARNING!!!! I did wiggle what i think is the solinoid, on firewall above batt. and the termanal on pass side, when turned alot. the truck turned over??? with switch off and KEY in the OFF possission. good thing it was in neutral...thanks, will let it tick and see where it's exacly located. knuck
Make sure that all your battery connections are tight, and if you have a 6 volt system make sure you have the proper 6 volt battery cables.
You can check to see which one is not making proper contact by the temperature of the cable, one will be warm if not properly connected.
Failing all that maybe your solonoid is on its way out. You can buy a replacement one at Mmost Napa stores, make sure it has the push button on the bottom.
I don't know what year your truck is but I thought the solonoid would be placed under the battery. This will avoid any spark causing the gasses around the battery to ignite.
