on my 05' there isnt a "0" in front of the other odo numbers , why does this one?

No "0' in front of other numbers on my 05 350 King Ranch either, maybe the odometer has been around the clock once and the "0" shows up. I have no idea why it's like that.

2005, F350. CC LWB Drw PSD King Ranch.

I honestly have no idea. It is a different cluster though. If you look at your top cluster it appears the numbers are made with segmented dashs opposed to dots on the lower one. Probably 2 different guys wrote program.

I think it depends whether or not you have the "mini" message centre or the full blown message centre. Notice on the one it shows the compass and that is the full message centre.

I don't have the full message centre, I have the mini message centre and it shows a 0 in front of the mileage. These are two different options available. I have the XLT with the mini message centre - I think it is an option for XLT and standard on Lariat and King Ranch to get the full message centre.

I think it's just the leading zero is missing - when you wrap it around to 100K, there will be a sixth digit showing up.

XL is base-model - no frills. So whatever circuitry shows the odometer reading has no real "smarts".

The more expensive message center probably has a real "CPU" in it, so it's smart enough to leave out the leading zero.

The mini message center will show the engine hours, but not the MPG.

I've been wondering if it's possible to swap clusters, or if there's PCM-dependent hardware/software that prevents it.

I have an XLT with the dash panel ike the first photo and do not have a leading zero.
