'95 351W problem
My Dad has a '95 E-150 Conversion Hightop Van with the 351W throttlebody and factory towing pkg. It has around 96,000 miles. A few months back my sister and her husband drove it on a long trip and when they returned, my Dad noticed a heavy black smoke "stain" on the quarter panel at the exhaust.
Well to make a long story short, he now has to run 93 octane fuel or it spark knocks like crazy. It has no towing power and if you try towing, it can hardly get past 50 mph. It gets around 11 mpg and used to get at least 16. And last, when sitting idling, you can barely feel a slight "miss".
Ford has run an initial diagnostic ($120) and can't come up with anything. They say they can perform a more extensive diagnostic for $280 but can't promise results.
Anybody have some ideas outside the obvious. No codes or anything like that. Remember, Ford has already run initial tests.
Thanks
