Yo!
1. If and when I replace the transmission- sooner than later, E40D, do I simply get a Ford/Motorcraft remanufactured that matches with the 351? Are there any worthy tweaks I should consider - it's my DD
(I understand some online Jasp**sell you an bigger tranny cooler and steel/lines??) What about a new tranfer case?
2. My understanding regarding the warranty is that it will be voided if tranny is not installed by a certified mechanic?
3. No, I will not do this swap myself.
4. My rig has not get up and go- it feels mushy, sluggish almost as if I have not power in the beginning stages of acceleration. Is this transmission related or transfercase?

i would talk with some local tranny shops and also ask some 4wd shops who they would recommend. if it feels slugish perhaps there are other issues. have you pulled codes? when was the motor tuned up last. when was the tranny serviced last? give us more detail regarding the slugishness and we can go from there
One nice thing about going to Ford is warrenty . But $$ but its worth it. Just check local shops and ask people who they recommend. They can build any e4od HD . There are good shops out there. Lately we get ours shipped in .Can't find good shop . I had 3 trans in 68000 miles in last truck . And I had them put the last one in. Good luck
I've never had the tranny serviced... I have swapped the ATF twice,, don't know if they checked the screens... so by service, I had the fluids changed twice.. what else does a tranny service contain? Engine compression test was last Aug 06, so, that wasn't really a tune up. Ford mech friend pulled codes April 06...
All you need is to find a good shop with a good warranty, a lot have 2-3yr now to keep up with the dealers then have then build it with a shift kit. I like trans-co and Superior. Then make sure you get a bigger cooler. Heat will kill a Trans and you can never have one too cool. Fancy converters and controllers or good for high horse power but not needed for any thing with less then 350 horses.
