I am about to start on a swap from a 3-sp manual to a c9 on my 66 swb f100 with a 390cid. I bought an engine/tranny combo from a 66 t-bird that came with the tranny, flexplate torque coverter, starter, down shift linkage, etc. Everything but a trans cooler, shifter and driveshaft.
I was planning on going with aftermarket shifter and cooler, but not sure what to doabout the driveshaft. The C6 has a 14 inch tailshaft housing. Does anyone know if there is a standard driveshaft that I can target looking for that is a direct swap? If not suggestions on which vehicle type to get a yoke from would be appreciated. This route will require having my current driveshaft cut to size. Other suggested route are also welcomed. Thanks-
That is a slip type yoke. Trucks and 4wd'd with divorced cases used a fixed yoke with a slip joint in the middle.
Options:
A. simply get a slip yoke, and have the driveshaft modified to attach.
B. tear the entire trans apart and change the output shaft and taishaft housing to accept a fixed yoke (too much work really)
A good driveshaft shop is going to be essential here and wii have everything you need to use the existing set-up and keep you vibration free.
Many late model 2wd trucks use the slip yoke configuration, even with really long 2 piece shafts. Doubt that you need a two piece shaft. You should be fine with a single.
75F350, thanks for the response. The C6 is a slip yoke setup and so is my current 3spd manual. I don't think the yolks are the same, but haven't tried. The current drive shaft is single piece as well due ti the truck being a short wheelbase model. I definitely don't want to have to change to fix yoke since that will be too much work and I'd still need to find a yolk/driveshaft for the set up Thanks again.
