A/C removal

I have an 87 Bronco II. 2.9l EFI 5 speed 4x4. it had A/C at one point but the condenser was removed and all of the tubes were cut. I have an 88 Ranger 4x2 5 speed 2.0 carb POS sitting around that never had A/C. Can i put the heater box thing on the Bronco so i dont have the big A/C Box?

and dont get me wrong. i love a/c. its just not the thing for my broncos engine. stock the 2.9 is rated at 140 hp. im looking at kicking it to 180-200 by time im done. i dont even care if it makes up to 180. its all about trying you know. i have $200 in ignition upgrades, about to order a $200 set of headers. ill probably have the heads ported eventually. will get some Accel injectors(about another $220) and im gonna try and find a cam. i only paid $50 for the bronco so yeh

Well, I never noticed that much difference behind the dash of my 1986 (no A/C) and my 1988 (with A/C). So, I would say yes, the heater box should swap right in.

One big benefit is you will find without the A/C compressor and without the box, that doing value covers on a 2.9L is only 1/2 painful and fairly easy.

Though with headers, I think clearing everything on the drivers side is the biggest obstacle.

The heater box from the Ranger will fit in place of the one in your BII that had A/C - some of the mounting bolts/nuts are not real easy to get to - but it can be done.

Changing the heater box out will be appreciably easier if you can get your old exhaust manigolds off first.

i want the box off first. cuz im not taking my manifolds off because i dont want to be breaking the original bolts. i will have my one relatives shop do that for me and put the headers on as well just so i dont screw anything up trying to do that. And then i will be changing a bunch of gaskets, valve covers, intake manifold, tb, oil pan, and everything else i can think of cuz i dont want any of my nice parts getting black oily and greasy. i am kinda **** about keeping stuff on my vehicles clean. if it gets dirty its clean the next day. Like muddy, rinse, repeat. lol

http://www.camcraftcams.com <-- probably the only source besides a local machine shop that can re-grind cams that I am aware of.
