Well boys and girls

Still clueless. It's going to be something stupid, I just know it.

I changed out the trans neutral switch and the ignition switch today. Both of them needed changing anyway. The neutral switch plug was shot and the ignition switch, well it was just a shot.

Tomorrow I'm putting a new dist in it. The dist comes with a stator so might as well change out the whole thing now anyway. Not that much more for a stock dist. All the stator test instructions say run the engine to warm and then do the ohms tests. Can't do that if I can't get it started.

I got to find an electrical mechanic. After tomorrow I'm done with it. Someone else is going to have to fix it.

Anyone from the Charlotte/Gastonia NC area got any recommendations for a good mechanic?

Think positive. The distributor might fix it.

Dizzy might

Since it's the only thing I haven't replaced other than the windshield and the tires. LOL

The pickup coil is the only thing left in the scope of the problem outside a wiring problem. Which I still think exists. The fact the the wiring harness get's pretty warm behind the dash bothers me. I guess if the coil does that with the key on maybe the wiring can too. Don't know.

Will know by dark tonight if the dist fixes it.

I have good news fellers :-)

It was the stator. I put in a reman dist with a new stator in it and it fired up first turn of the key.

Some insurance and some plates and the tank is back on the road.

With time to spare for my log barn project. Whoooohoooooo!!!!!!!!!!

MANY thanks to all of you for your contributions which more than anything else kept me from diving out a window. LOL
