Alright guys - someone help me out here. I just got of the phone with my local muffler shop and they are telling me to NOT put the Flowmaster 40 series on my V10.
They state it results in power loss as the chambers in the muffler aren't big enough for the pressure the V10 puts out (as compared to a V8 which is what the muffler was designed for). He said he'd be more than happy to put one on for me, but that I'd be back to have it removed - everyone else they have done it for here has gone back and switched it with the 70 series because they lost so much power...
Honestly I felt no loss in power. In fact, it really accelerates better getting on the highway. I will be dyno'ing my truck next month. That will be the true test.
I am going to talk with the guy who did my install to see if he can fab up a way for me to switch mufflers (stock & FM40 / there is a huge difference in size.) between runs. I get 6 for $75. I will also swap intakes between runs. (stock and Airaid intake kit)
I like the sound and my dog is already in tune with it. I'd hate to switch and end up confusing my dog.
As monsta said only the dyno will tell. I have not noticed any loss in power/at least not enough that i can tell. I actually think the truck is more responsive, but it could be the placebo syndrome,in any event the power loss if any can be regained with other mod's. Why give up the sound we been looking for
