Yeah, I just got a 97 f-150 Lariat, and I want it to go faster, simply put. I can only get it to like 96 or so, I want more power. Also, how do I get that loud v8 sound? The one where like you're at a stoplight but the engine is roaring with power? I love that sound. Anyway, yeah that's about it. Just like where on the web I can find racing type stuff for trucks, mostly for 97 F150's, Lariats if possible. Right now it has a Triton V8, 4.6L, if that matters. Anywa, thank you for your time.
For it to be loud and have the V8 sound, you want Flowmaster 40 Series Mufflers...On my truck, I have two mufflers (true dual exhaust) and it's really loud. Getting Flowmasters will also help your performance by reducing backpressure and letting the engine breathe better. If you want it loud, get two seperate mufflers with a true dual exhaust setup...it will sound great. I also recommend getting a K&N filter or FIPK, so your air intake will be improved. You can also get a performance chip from Motorhaven, and I believe that will remove your speed limiter and add hp + torque. I hope this helps.
2002 Ford F-150 S/C XLT 4x4 Dark Shadow Gray w/ Silver accent, Dual Flowmaster 40 Series, K&N Filter, Rhino Liner, Ventvisors and Bugshield
Alright, I checked out the FlowMaster stuff, they had a video with a before and after sound of a newer Ford F-150 extended cab truck, and OH MY GOD did it have the sound I want after the FlowMaster mufflers were added, very loud and powerful/mean sounding, I like that a lot. So needless to say, I'm buying some Flowmasters as soon as possible, after getting some headers to increase the HP and torque, and then I'm also getting a K&N Fuel Injection Performance kit that adds AT LEAST 23ft./lbs. of torque, which is good. It also increases acceleration, also a plus. I'm still unsure as to where I can find out which headers would be great for my truck and the Flowmaster exhaust system. I also want to make that a dual exhaust system, so wherever I can find info on that would be great. Hmm, what else. Oh yeah, I read up on that chip, sounds like a good idea. Wasn't too expensive either. Anyway, I'm hoping all of this will at least get me up to 120 mph or so. Eventually I want to get my truck to pump out 180 to 190 mph, so if anyone can help me out with that, please do. That's all I can think of at this time. Thank you for your time.
I forgot to say that the Flowmasters that I'm getting are dual Delta Flow 40 Series. They sounded the best to me, and they aren't loud on the indside of the truck which I like, because I listen to music all the time. Thanks again.
ALRIGHT!! SCRATCH ALL OF THAT!! I want to know all the info necessary on putting a big block 460 in my 97 Lariat. Prices, parts, websites, anything that can help, please post. Thanks.
Without gettin' too detailed, you'll most likely need the 460 (how old is it?) a tranny that will handle it and a new rear end. You probably will need a new computer and wiring harness, unless the 460 is old and then you scrap the computer and get all new gauges. With all of this, you'll most likely need to fabricate new mounts for the tranny and engine and probably need to modify the wheel wells to get it under the hood.
