That is a sensible question. I will take a whack at 1/2 the answer.

Gasoline is much more volatile than penetrating oil. When the MMO/gas mixture hits the carb venturi and the partial vacuum, gasoline vaporizes, oil does not. The liquid oil coats the intake valve stem on the way into the cylinder. Some is left after the explosion and coats the exhaust valve stem. Valve action works the oil up the guide and helps reduce friction. Valves seat better and the engine runs better

As far as how MMO works in the crankcase as an oil mix, I leave to the smart guys to explain how it busts rings free.

All I know from my 55 years is that the stuff works.
