My 04 5.4 has 42000 miles on it. It has always had conventional oil in it. I want to change to synthetic or bled. Whats better and why. I run full synthetic Mobil1 In my Yukon scince the day I got it, just don't know about changing at 42000 miles. Thanks
cstrol synthec is not synthetic. it is regular oil that they call"reformulated" just about al castrol is nuthing more than exxon oil. everything they use comes from exxon chemical and thy blend it. they do not make any oil, they are a reblender. i trucked in enough brite stoke and addituive packages to them over the years. it all came out of exxon chemical in bayonne n.j.

It does not make much sense that Castrol would buy base oils and additive packages from Exxon/Mobil. Why would they not get the stuff from BP considering Castrol is a division of BP Lubricants.

I have an 04 5.4L and I use the motorcraft synthetic blend. Like stated above you really cant beat it for a syn blend oil. You can get it at your local walmart for about $2.50 a quart. Plus you know it meets the specifications since it is a ford product.
I'd just run the Motorcraft 5w20 that Ford recommends.
I personally don't see the point of running synthetic oils for the average user and for the average time that people keep thier vehicles (Let's say < 150000 miles, and usually much less). The only thing I can see synthetics good for is extended drains, and you still get the same amount of crap in your oil as you do with conventional.
I'm almost positive that I just opened a 5 gallon bucket of worms, but there you have it. The only thing I use synthetic on is my wife's Toyota because I never change the oil soon enough or on a regular basis, so I'll throw a little more protection in there for the extended drain time.
The MC 5w20 is specially made by Ford, specificly for your truck. It doesn't get any better than that IMO.

Blah Blah Blah........
I Run Royal Purple. Screw what anyone ever says about it, the stuff is great, I am without a doubt sure that i've got more power out of it. On the other hand, i agree with BLK94F150, Motorcraft 5W20 is great, pick it up at wal-mart if you change your own oil but if you have it changed at a dealer make sure they use the bottles and not what they have in bulk.

I agree with your average user statement and that MC 5W-20 SB is a good oil. Although Motorcraft oil is blended to Ford specifications by Conoco-Philips.
Yeah by made, I mean speced and actually produced by Conoco-phillips. I did a lot of research into the Motorcraft oils. The base stock they use is pretty much completely clear.
pennsoil and the other pennslyvnis oils also get all their additive packages from exxon chemical in bayonne nj. casrol dose not make anything. they buy everthing and just blend and can it. i hauled mostlly chemicals all over the states for near 20 years. most people have no idea where this stuff comes from or whoo makes it. hell, most all the no-lead gas on the east coast comes from venesuala in south america and the additve comes from plants in new jersey. its al the same stuff. your diesel fuel comes mostley from refinereys in texas etc and it is l mixed in pipe lines and pumped north. it is all the same. no-ones fuel is different from anyone elses fuel.
