Synthetic??

Synthetic, botton line, is overkill for our engines. Changing fluid (that is certified/approved by the manufacturer for use) at the recommended intervals or earlier is the MOST important thing for engine longevity. Yet, I still use it.
Synthetic does have properties that make it a superiour oil over regular oil but usually those properties only show an advantage in more high performnce applications and very extreme conditions.
You can usully go longer with synthetics. That is a very looooooooong discussion.

As Monsta said, this is a subject that has literally been beat to death with a blunt instrument here. BUT, you haven't been involved in those conversations so; In MY opinion, the Motocraft syn/blend is, dollar for dollar, the very best oil for our beloved V-10's. At $5 a quart, the Mobil 1 Super Syn I was using provided no added advantages to the $1.77 a quart Motocraft that I eventually went back to. Change it every 3,000 miles and you will have great protection and a long, long engine life. Take the extra $20 from every oil change and save it for Ken's Scanner/performance chip. You'll have your engine protected and have more towing power, passing power and firmer shifts along with the ability the scan any check engine codes you may get. I looked into the Royal Purple oil also as it looked to me like the top of the line in lubrication, but still, I went back to the Motocraft 5W-30 and I change it every 3,000 miles. Welcome to the V-10 board ! I look forward to any discussions and/or questions you have in the future, Ken
Regular oil will not pour out of the can at -30 degrees or colder, Synthetic oil will. There are times when you have to leave your vehicle for extended periods and there is no place to plug it in.
I want oil that is going to flow even when the engine is severly cold.

It costs me $24.95 to change my oil at Ford Quick lane every 3000 miles and after the fifth change they give me a free oil and filter change. So thats about $20 an oil change and makes me happy and keeps the warranties intact.
I don't know how much the Ford companies total sales are per year but I am sure they are in the billions. Now they spend a bunch of money on engineering, testing and analysis I would guess probably over a billion dollars per year. I feel it would be in their best interests to recommend the best for their engines. They have a vested interested in having repeat customers and longevity of an engine is probably the number one requirement. I think if Ford would recommend a synthetic I would use it, but until then its still the 5W-20 for my Fords.
Just my humble opinion.
