M100 rear spring question

I have a question concerning the ride in my truck.
I have read somewhere that taking out every third leaf in the rear will soften up the ride.
My question is that when you do that how much will it lower the truck?
Right now I have the axle on top of the springs. It is to low, bottoms out easily, and rides very rough.I'd like to raise it about 2 in.
I'm thinking of putting the axle back below the springs and taking out some leafs. The overloads and the two extra leafs add up to 1.5 in.
How much more does the truck drop with leafs taken out besides the thickness of the removed springs?
Anybody have any idea?
Thanks

Herman,
Get yourself a copy of the Mid-Fifty catalog. (www.midfifty.com or 1-800-252-1956) They have a couple of pages in there that tell you which springs to remove and how much drop to expect. They also sell the reverse eye springs and extended shackles for even more drop. They give you an idea of how much drop (from stock height) to expect with each of these options. Lots of other good stuff in there too.

Good Luck!

Huh...... If you think it's low with the springs on top of the axle it will only get lower if put them below the axle. If you take out every third spring it will bottom out even more. You've got me confused but, maybe that's just me!

Thanks for the tip Fatfords.
Brucewolf, the axle is on top of the springs right now.I am moving it back to the original location below the springs. That would raise it by about 4.5 in without removing any leafs.I hope this clears up any confusion.

Has anybody installed the single mono springs in the rear?
And if so how is the ride and height?

I installed monos on the rear of my 56 a couple of years ago and have put around 3000 miles on it since. My stock spring had only 3 leafs and the main leafs on both sides were busted.

I bought the standard eye mono. It lowered things a couple inches. Then I added 2" drop shackles. That put it about right. Here's a pic: https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=52333&width=2

The ride initially was VERY ROUGH. I thought I had made a terrible mistake. However, after a few months, the ride seemed to smooth out. It rides fine now.

I will be changing to a reverse eye stock spring pack soon. I just can't trust a spring that changes its spring rate. And, unlike the stock spring pack, if the mono breaks, I'm toast.

Randy,

Do you think the spring rate really changed? Are you sure you didn't just get used to the rough ride lol?

Oh, yes, Vern. I'm very sure it changed. I took my buddy for a ride in it right afetr he helped me put the finishing touches on it. We drove over parking lot speed bumps at 3 mph and it launched both of us from the seat. Two years later, that same bump is no biggy. That's why I'm worried.

Thje stock spring pack (revese eye with sliders strips) will give me a lot of adjustment also. I should be able to dial the ride height and stiffness right in by dropping/adding leafs.

Thank's for the info Randy.
I'm almost done putting it back to original with the axle below the spring.
I left three springs and one overload to keep the spring pack straight.
This gave me about 2.5 in more height than I had before.
I should be able to finish on Monday.
I will let you know how it rides. It is my year round daily driver so to low just isn't practical for me.
