'85 351w plus SD EFI

I'm planning on swapping the worn-out 5.8 in my '91 F250 with a recently rebuilt long block from an '85 truck (carbed, of course).

Will the '85 cam mess with the '91 SD 'puter? Any other suggestions or advice?

-Ben

my uncle converted a 302 fuel injected to carburetor. and his truck wouldnt start, they unplugged the computer and it started right up. dont know why, but, it might be the same as far as your truck goes

What should I be sure to pull from my '91 block? Sensors & dizzy for sure, but will anything else give me trouble? Do I need to swap the cam?

Was the '85 a HO motor? If it was use the cam it has. If not swap it out for an aftermarket cam, the standard cam for the non HO 351(both EFI and carb) is lame. You'll need the complete EFI intake with all wiring and plumbing for the swap.

Just now getting around to the swap... :P

Yeah, the air cleaner shows that it's an HO, so I'll leave the cam in. Looks like I'm going to have to swap the timing cover too, the old one had a cam-driven fuel pump.

Thanks all...

Too late, I already replaced mine... I've got both blocks side-by-side and I'm just moving most of my 91's gear over to the '86 block. Thanks for the tip though

How much better is the '86 HO's cam? Am I gonna need to chip my ECM after I get done, or should it run ok?

I think it'll run fine, and it'll produce WAY more power than the '91.

Nice... you just made my day!

Just keep your fingers crossed that my poor little SD computer doesn't get too confused, I don't want to buy a chip for it ($$$).
