Oregon property tax question

I'm thinking of retiring to Oregon and so is my neighbor. He says when you buy a house there the property tax goes way up cause it's based on a percentage of the purchase price, so a $300,000 house even outside the city limits will result in several thousand dollars of annual property tax. I find this hard to believe. I understand that the tax will go up, but surely not like he thinks. Can anybody give me some real world numbers, say, in the Grants Pass area?

Wouldn't the FTE Oregon chapter be the best place for this topic?

From: Central Oregon
I live in Central Oregon, I paid 131,000 for it as a fixer upper nad would sell for around 250-300,000 2 years later. My property taxes was 1300 last year. It does depend on what county you live in.
