86 B2 engine stump

I have an 86 Bronco II 2.9 EFI,i had a wreck in it a few years ago, then recently decided to put another front clip on it and start using it again.
After sitting for a while i ended up replacing the Idle Air Control valve because it would idle at 2000 rpm's and even after cleaning the IAC valve it helped but still didnt act right,so after replacing it that solved the issue there.
The problem im having and even started havin before it was wrecked is after about 1-2 minutes of first starting it, it will seem to burn really rich and stumble for about 30-45 seconds, then smooth right out and never happen again unless i shut it off and restart, then it will do exactly the same thing after a few minutes again and smooth right out.
Ive just lived with it for a while because its just a matter of seconds untill it clears up.
Anyone have any ideas ?
For the record i put a brand new in-tank fuel pump and new fuel filters in it recently too.

Have you check your injectors? maybe one of them is going bad or something. I have a 86 as well and ran into a simlar problem. My timing was out a little, and i had a bad injector.

When my '87 behaved similar, I pulled the codes from the computer and was able to diagnose a bad O2 sensor. I've also seen a TSB that points to a dirty throttle body/upper intake as a possible cause.

well have you pulled the codes on the 86? i would replace the O2 sensor and clean the throttle body. if that doesnt do it, check the air filter. it may need to be replaced. if it is dirty or cloged up, the then computer may be trying to compensate for that thus haveing a realy rich fuel mixture.

i havent pulled the codes recently, ive recently done the minor tune up process, new plugs, wires, cap and rotor etc..still the same.
It runs beautiful after it goes through that little 30-45 second fit it has after running about 1-2 minutes,it starts up fine and idles and runs fine just like it should, but after a few minutes it throws a fit for a short time..then smooths right out again.
It does seem to run just a tad rich because when cruising down the road at times if the rear hatch isnt shut completely you can smell a rich burn, but just the other day i did a long trip in it and figured i was still getting 26 MPG on the highway which is what it has always been since ive had it since 1999.
I had recently ran into a good deal on some brand new Pacesetter long tube headers for it and plan on doin the whole exhaust,so i'll be buying a new O2 sensor to put in it while im doing that.
It just kind of baffles me that it only does it reliably everytime for a short time then quits, but it does it over and over everytime you shut it off and start again.warm and cold.

Clean the IAC tube, upper/lower intake, throttle body, and EGR. Clean/replace the O2 sensor. Pull codes. Check/replace the ECT and Air Charge Temp sensor. Check/replace injector(s) -- you can probably run 2-3 bottles of fuel system/injector cleaner per tank every fill-up for a while and clear some of it up, BUT, if the injector itself is really messed up and leaking, I would replace all 6. If it's happening both warm and cold, then these are the most likely contributing culprits.

Thanks everyone, one question,i am going to go ahead and clean everything, sensors, throttle body and upper and lower intake and tak the injectors out and inspect o-rings and possible have them cleaned by a freind of mine who works at a dealer before i start replacing and see what happens, will also pull codes, question is,can i use just the regular carb cleaner to clean the sensors with out hurting them?..or is there something else better for that?

I've always had good luck with the spray carb / throttle body cleaner stuff. You may also want to get some good nylon bristled toothbrush-style brushes and pipe cleaners to get any heavy buildup off.
