a friend of my FIL has a rail car crash clean-up business. when a train crashes he goes in there and cleans it up, he's allowed to keep and salvage anything he wants to except toyotas... toyota brings a team of guys and a crusher and promptly squashes every one whether its badly damages, or just has a blowout. i know its just toyota's, but thats a terribly waste of materials and effort...

That should apply to all ricers.
And no that`s not really that a big waste....
After my own crash "test" I'll say if I wasn't totally hooked on Ford before, I sure am now.
Fully loaded Freightliner with a sleepy driver T-bones me in an intersection (driver side). I don't remember the accident iteslf, but a broken clavicle, 5 or 6 chipped teeth and assorted bruising. I still went to work later the same day.
Then 1 week later, I'm in surgery when my spleen finally ruptured from the internal bleeding.
Pretty serious stuff, but all things considered, when a 80,000 pound semi truck slams into your vehicle 10 to 12 inches from your face and your kids still aren't cashing in on your life insurance, I'd call that a pretty safe truck. There was no question in my mind when I went to replace the '04 Heritage. I bought another Ford.
boy you are lucky!! as i always say...the crash tests aren't real world scenario's, and if i gotta die in a crash, i'd rather do it in the comforts of my ford than in some ****box!!!
From the damage your lucky that semi was not doing highway speeds.
How did you manage to go to work after that. What happened to the rightside of the truck, were you driven into another vehicle or object.
Good trhing the truck has a full fram underneath. The vehicles that have the frame ending just under the seat and restarting at the back seats tend to crumple in worst than vehicles with full frames. Sadly most cars are like this. Being a 1st responder I seen my share of t-boned cars with no full frames just crushed in.
Good thing your OK and that your injury's are on the mend.

By all indications the Freightliner was doing around 30.
The damage on the right is from the Audi that was unfortunate enough to be beside me (but lucky that my baby took most of the beating).
As for going to work, it's just what I do. But there was no indication that my spleen was ruptured, they even took some X-Rays to make sure my lungs were't collapsed. They put me in a sling for the busted collarbone, and sent me on my merry way. I felt a little dazed, but it was my second to last day at a job I didn't really care for, and I wanted to make sure all my s**t was done so I could get the F out without any unfinished business.
Good think they caught the spleen for you. I ahd a friend when I was younger who was in an accident where he took down a light pole. He hit the steering wheel of his truck. He went home saying he was fine. He died that night from internal bleeding. His accident was not as severe as yours. His truck was bought and fixed again. It had minor damage.
The main thing is your recovery and your there for the family.
Yes I would be upset about my truck too, but life is better than my truck, Too many people love me and I love them. It comes down to it our trucks are our loves, but really big boys toys and pride and joy, but what really counts is our family and friends than the piece of metal truck. We can replace it but ourselves.
