Dana 60/44?

Ive got a 79 f250 camper special and was wondering if the front diff is a dana 60 or 44? At first I thought it was a dana 60 but I read about trucks from 1979 and saw that they came with dana 44's and that the dana 60 was an option. I tried looking up the serial number and it said the day it was made and what motor ect. And I was just wondering how you identify differentials.
thanks

i think the easiest way is to measure the hub....if its 4" its a 60, if its smaller then it would make it a 44.

On the webbing of the differential housing it should have a "44" or "60" cast into it.

as much as some people hate to hear it.

The best info is in the specific systems forums.

ITC,the "Drivetrain forum"

Hope this helps.

You know that you have a 60 in the rear. Simply use it as a reference to size up the front one.
Also, easiest way to tell is by the size of the inspection cover bolts. The 60 will require a 9/16 wrench, or socket, and the 44 only requires a 1/2 inch.
Simple, and works every time.
