well i guess it had to happen some time, but my PSD was broke into this morning while i was at work. looks like they popped the driver side lock with a screwdriver. the driver side door will not lock now. there was not really anything worth taking in the cab to begin with so i'm kinda confused as to why they targeted my truck. all they got was some loose tools, some spare change, 2 baseball caps and 1 left winter glove (they left the right one)... they passed up on my best of the 80's cds, brake controller and cell phone charger. i guess it was a smash and grab. of course the security guard assigned to the lot where my truck was parked didnt see a thing. i was upset, but at least they didnt try to steal the truck so i felt a bit better about the whole situation. the police came and filed a report and i drove home with my tail between my legs.
my question is this. how much and where should i got to get the door lock repaired? should i try the local stealership or a body shop? any estimates on costs? or is this a DIY job?
i guess i should get a car alarm too... any suggestions?
Other than a Rottwiler in the cab of the truck , SpringerPop has come up with a great immobilizer that you can build yourself that will disable the truck until you pass a magnet over a certain spot of your choosing that will power up the IDM relay.

well i went to our local ford dealership and got a replacement cylinder for 90 bucks and they are building it out now. i took the truck home and pulled the door panel and popped the door handle out and took the broken cylinder and filled it with epoxy so it wont work at all. re-installed and everything works fine. just cant unlock the door with the key on the drivers side. when the dealership gets done building the lock i'll swap it out. i'm lucky that they didnt stab the door below the handle and break the lock and open rods.
i'm looking at this product to re-enforce the doors.
Sorry that happened to you. It was probably some crack head loser.
I have to take my oldest daughter to the airport in South Houston next week. I think I will take my dog too. I wish there was a way to rig up some high DC voltage to the truck.

Uh oh... How's east Houston (Bryan)? I'm going to the shootout in October, do I need some jimmy jammers before I go?
You're going to Bryan? That's way northwest of Houston. You'll be fine in Bryan. Bryan and College Station are like the same town. That's where Texas A&M is. You shouldn't have any problems there.
South Houston, now that's a different story. Lots of Katrina refugees and gang bangers. I am pretty sure I am taking the dog with me. 90# Rottweiller/Lab mix and she's as tough as nails.
As hot as Houston has been , PLEASE don't leave your doggie in the truck, even with the windows cracked open. Of course, October may be WAAAAAY different.
It doesn't take long, maybe three or four minutes, to get so hot inside that the dog's "cooling system" (saliva evaporating off the tongue) can't keep up with the temperature, and they start to heatstroke.
I no, I would never leave her in the truck, not even for a minute. Dallas is like one of my kids. In fact she's a little better is some respects as she never argues......
We are going to just drop Cody at the gate and we are on our way back home.
Sorry, not Bryan. Baytown.....Houston raceway park.
Baytown at the racetrack you should be ok. In fact you should be ok in most of Baytown. I might have to roll out that way and meet you. That's only about a 45 mile ride from me. I would imagine that David Lott and his crew will be there too.
I plan on going to the diesel drags again this October. Last year, the parking was on the pit side and with all the people around I doubt anyone had a break in. I was sorry to see that David Lott didn't make a full run that day. I understand that Dennis Schroeder from ITP Diesel will be there. Looking forward to talk to some of the vendors and see some good racing.
