I should know this, but after one and a half years of paying attention to this forum I still don't understand the difference between a chip, a programer, a module and a tuner. If some one would kindly explain how these items differ I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, John
a programmer and a tuner are the same thing--they reprogram the PCM and TCM with new operating parameters. A chip/module plug in to the wiring harness full time (a programmer/tuner does not stay plugged in) and fool the PCM and TCM into doing something other than programmed. The computers can't really control accurately the operating parameters of your engine a chips/module like it can with a tuner/programmer.

John,
Check this link from a recent discussion on one of the more popular brands, the Edge, and you'll probably learn more than you wanted to know. Lots of info on this is available but this thread is full of tecnical explanations.
