I recently lost 3 gallons of coolant due to my own stupidity. I changed my air filter and did it by removing the whole intake off the turbo to make sure I got a good seal on ther filter. When I put it back together I forgot to put the little hose back on to the front of the degas bottle. Long story short, I did a trip through the desert and after about 100 miles in 100 degree weather, I lost a lot of coolant. Fortunately I decided to look under the hood while my wife was using the restroom at the gas station! The only coolant they had was Peak Global universal " compatible with any coolant." It matched the specs in the diesel supplement in my owners manual, BUT, it's not G05 spec. Do I need to flush the cooling system, or is the Peak global sufficient?
is that stuff at least long life coolant? ie good for 5 years?
Mixing the long life with the old stuff poisons the long life (so Ive been told).
If it is long life I cant see it being detrimental in small quantities.
Im sure others will add more here by tomorow, I am sure they will say that the Ford Gold has special diesel additive (which it does) that prevents cavatation. The question is did you dilute that additive enough to matter with the new stuff? How many gallons is the system, cause 3 gallons lost could be significant.
I think you can get that additive seperately, but I dont know its compatibility.
Speaking of flushing the system, what is the best way to do that. I remember the Prestone flush kits that you install a T on the heater core intake hose and connect a water hose to it then you flush out the engine.
