How can I tell what size inline six I have without dissasembling the engine. It's in a 66 F600 truck. The numbers on the side of the block are D1AE is there more numbers to tell more.I'm looking to rebuild and do some performance upgrades as this heavy truck (dump truck) needs a little more help. What size engine do i have? And what are the best upgrades for this application? All help appreciated. Thanks
It's a 300, and the best upgrade would be a 429/5 gear out of a later model truck.
Other than that, the easiest thing is a header and 4bbl manifold with a 390 cfm or similar carb. Upgrade the ignition...Duraspark II maybe, and you're up on power noticably.
After that, it's teardown time for more compression, different cam, head work.
330, 361, 391 engines were also used. Gotta find a scrappy with a bunch of F600s....
