Survey: What's the highest mileage v10 you have seen, ex: 165,000 miles
#46
I'm new to this forum so bear with my ignorance. I have a 2000 SD with a V10 that has 312000 Km. this converts to roughly to 193000 miles. Still runs well. Uses a bit of oil but nothing to get excited about. Just as a side note; when I bought this truck from my brother's widow, it burnt oil like crazy to the tune of a litre to a tank of gas. I was going to yank it and rebuild it and then one day when I was adding oil again while it was running, I noticed that when I removed the oil filler cap, there was a huge amount of suction when I put my hand over the hole. Turns out the PCV was stuck and sucking oil through the hose and dumping it into the intake. I changed the PCV and oil consumption dropped from a litre every 500 km to almost nothing. Just my .02$

I just sold my commuter car last night and he asked about my truck. I told him it had the V10 and he proceeded to tell me his experience. He is a mechanic that is subcontracted out to maintain the E350 buses for a charter company. He states that he has seen well over 500k on many of them and only has to do regular maint.(plugs,coils,fluids). Kinda made me feel a lil warm and fuzzy seeing as I only have 101k on the clock. Hmm, I may never have to buy another truck!!!

I'm sitting at 182,000 miles and use it specifically to pull my 8,000lb travel trailer around Alaska.
As for being concerned with purchasing a high mileage vehicle I look at it like this. If everything checks out on it, no rust issues, electrical issues etc and your just tossing fuel at it and driving it then save up for the worst. If my V10 does give out for 5k (far less than a new truck) I can have my motor completely rebuilt, or get a ford reman. For 3k you can have a new transmission.
And even though it's a 2v V10 it still puts down 310HP and 425TQ stock. 5-Star Tune, Headers, and some 4.56 gears and I don't think there is a newer gas motor that is worth the 40k+ more than my current rig.
