MAACO anyone?

I'm just curious of anyone's possitive, or negative, experience with a MAACO paint job. And which paint job was it?

I know, I know . . . you get what you pay for. So on this project I'm not expecting that much. (A rock crawler VW Bug.) But for $600.00 to $1,000.00 it'd be O.K. right? Or no. Two local shops both wanted between $3K and $4K! Once they found out there was no insurance money involved , I think they hiked the price as a way of saying, "We don't want to mess with it."

I had a maco paint job on an old ChevyP/U 10 years ago, I guess the guy painting it was tired so he set the paint gun on the hood on top of the drying paint, yeah, there was a big ring there when I almost pick up the truck. They fixed it ,but like you said " you get what you paid for".

From what I have seen, they don't hire a single person that can tape off anything correctly. If you want your moldings and trim painted, go for it. I thought about taping off the truck before I took it to them, thus avoiding the problem. But you are correct, you get what you pay for. I would do all body, prep, and tape off work before you take it to them, and you'll prolly be alright.

I had Maaco paint my wifes car. You get what you pay for, as in if it's not written on the paper work, they aren't going to do it. The only problems I had was the overspray on the wheels, and for some reason they painted the chrome exhaust tips black. I ended up just scraping the paint off the tips myself. I disassembled everything before I took it in too.

Had my beauty painted there last april, and it has made the truck floor room material since. Ironically enough it has been there for the past two weeks getitng the rest of the dents removed from it one year later, there also installing my new roll pan, applying chip guard to the bottom of the truck. They do all sorts of projects like customily installing my clear cab roof lights. There great, go for it. Out paint job was the third best one, i lbelive it was $800, with $1,200 of dent removal. Go for it man, just make sure u stay on them for any spots they missed because they dont remove trim

they are not bad if your are willing to do the prep. The prep is the foundation for a beautiful truck.

It depends on the maaco you go to. Some are crap, but I went to the one in Littleton, CO which was rated the best maaco in the country a few years back ( so the owner say). It cost $1500 for basically a presidential paint job with urethane paint and some dent repair. It came out pretty good, except they don't do much about orange peel in some of the inconspicuous areas like the lower portions of the quarter panels. My biggest issue with them was that they don't spent very much time/paint at all on the bottom edges of the body panels. That began to rust/flake in a month.

My brother has used the one in north Fort Worth a couple of times. The last time they took apart his 79 Lariat to the frame, repainted frame and all. Even removed the trime pieces. And then reassembled it using new seals everywhere. It looks good as new, but the colors seem off to me. He loves it. So, I suppose that's all that matters.

I wouldn't let my local Maaco paint a wagon for me let alone a vehicle. BUT, it all depends on the Maacos and who is painting. The local Maaco, at one time, had a guy that was excellent. You had to request him to do the work and he soon went off on his own.

I had a truck painted by Maaco in downtown San Diego (1988). They did a good job for the money. I think I got the higher end paint job... maybe $1,200 at the time. I think it may have been called the "VIP"? It was my first truck and I was a broke kid. I was happy with it.

Good comments, I was thinking of going to them too. I'll check out some of their work beforehand.

they're good at filling in dents and the paint job was good too but if you dont specifically point something out then they wont do it. I had a couple rough spots that needed sanding and when I dropped it of I told him to smooth out any rough spots and they didnt do it. I took my truck there totally disassembled to get painted inside and out and the only thing I left in was the headliner because I figured they would just tape it off but they took it out and never put it back in. I went back in to ask them about it and after I finally convinced the guy that it was in there he took 20 minutes looking for it and when he brought it out it was filthy and somebody clearly stepped on it

they did a very poor paint job and even worse body work on my pick up. i had all the trim removed and filled. many of the spots are falling through. bondo! no professional body shop should use bondo to fill holes. the paint coverage is so thin and poorly prepped the new color is lifting. they painted my window tint, didn't tighten my filler neck tubes, left the inside of my fuel filler doors un-painted, and didn't put my weatherstripping back on my doors. if you ask me they suck!!! and to top it off i paid those hacks $2600.
