BP sensor clicking?

I already listed this subject in the 302 forums but nobody got back with me, so Im gonna try here. My 86 f150 302 efi has a clicking sound coming from the area my BP sensor is. Everytime i change the RPMs at all it will start to click, and even sometimes it will click without reving it. Also when I start my truck it will either idle up to 1800 RPMs and then go down to about 400 and back up to 1900 or it will die off. Are these problems related? I am just wondering if it is my BP sensor malfunctioning or is it normal?

Thanks in advance
Blake

I'm kidding. It's the Barometric Pressure Sensor that I believe he's referring to.

My books do not show a barometric pressure sensor on a truck system, they just show a MAP sensor which automatically does the barometric pressure measuring too. The MAP sensor is located remotely with a vacuum line.

Where is the sensor located that you are talking about?

The BP sensor was on some of the earlier EFI systems, before Mass Airflow Sensors were used. After the MAF began being used, the BP sensor was obsolete, thus no longer included.

I haven't personally seen one on a vehicle, but I've heard about them in the past.

I know some fuel injected systems used a barometric pressure sensor. But I looked at a diagram for a 86 fuel injected truck with a 5.0, and can't find it in the diagram.

Is that on the "tree" mounted to the passenger fender just behing the battery covered with a black plastic hood? there are 3 sensors there, each has a vac. line and an electrical connection. Is the clicking coming from there? My '86 EFI clicks from thee too.

Yeah, i was looking at the ford fuel injection site and it said that the MAP sensor was only for super duty systems. Then it showed the BP sensor so i figured that I had a BP and not a MAP.
Sorry for the confusion

If you happen to have what looks like a sensor, but it has two vacuum lines going to it, then it's probably a solenoid and not a sensor. That would explain the clicking.
