Thinking about the truck avenger 470 instead of the 670. I have a carter 650 now I believe, and when I put headers on and flowmasters it feels as though I lost a tremendous amount of torque. I don't like it at all, while before I could light my 33 inchers up with a single exhaust all day, since the headers and flowmasters no way. It's pretty much a stock 400 with a edelbrock intake so what would you guys do?
my reason to go smaller is because that carb is for v6 which makes about the same amount of power a 400 makes stock, I also once put a two barrel carb on a 302 and same deal I could the fry tires all day with torque, put a 4 barrel on and could never light em up in gravel! WOW!
I've heard of regrinds, but they are ultra cheap quality. A lot of VW guys do it because of limited availablity and the aircraft quality steel used in those motors, neither of which are a case with the 351M/400 motors.
I would avoid the truck avengers, go with the street avenger. I run a street avenger 570 and regularly get 15 mpg with my 400, its a 2wd with 32" tires and 2.75 rear gears.
why avoid the truck avenger? My truck will be off highway most of its time. Is the street avenger good offroad? I use to run a 650 edelbrock on my 80 k5 blazer and it was horrible on off camber situations and supposedly the avenger should cure these problems it was built with that in mind. I am not opposed to the idea just want some justification! Thanks guys
I race in the mud and I'll tell you that the truck avenger isn't all its cracked up to be, it has bad problems with vapor lock, which can be overcome, and you will be required to jet it to your application. The street avenger is a much better design, for my gas motors its all I run. The Methanol motors get a King Demon 950 or 1050.
