My 89 351W is not getting fuel. If I jumper the hot wire on the fuel pump relay, the pump runs. I can start and run the truck in this mode but fuel leaks on the ground.
I've read many of the posts around this topic and have grounded pin 6 on the DLC. With the key on and pin 6 grounded, the fuel pump does NOT run. The only way that I have been able to get the pump running is by jumpering the hot wire.
I read a post by subford that said "With pin#6 grounded and the key on the fuel pump will run all the time, if it does not then you have problems with the fuel pump or relay."
Apply +12v to 85 pin on relay and ground the 86 pin, you should hear the switch in the relay **click**, if not then your relay is fried; replace the relay, cheap part and easy fix.
OBVIOUS NOTE: You'll need to remove the relay from the truck to test it... Just in case there was any confusion there...
I've got the tool to separate the line. I'll be correcting it yet this week. Been rebuilding a roof on my old pop-up to get ready for deer season this fall.
Special thanks to subford, but thanks to everyone for your contributions to this forum. After 6 weeks of evenings and weekends (not all of them working on the truck), and lots of hours reading posts, my $250 89 F150 is running to beat the band!
Just took it for a spin for about 2 miles. Now to change the differential fluids, tranny, and transfer case and put on some new exhaust.
