After 4 cars, i own my first with an automatic transmission. I bought a 1994 Mercury cougar with a 4.8 V8. So, far its proven to be a fairly decent car but i do miss having a standard.
Now i may have a possible solution to my dilemma. Would it be possible to take a 5-speed from a 4.6 mustang and put it in my cougar? What would it take? Different driveshaft? tranny mounts?etc.

If you have to ask, you are in a for a rough time doing this project.
-Clutch/brake pedals from a MT equipped Cougar or Tbird of the same vintage.
-Bell and clutch from the Mustang, make sure you get the right balance on the flywheel and a starter that will work with your combo.
-fab/modify clutch acutation via cable or hydraulic
-T5 from a Mustang, research those and get the later World Class, maybe get one with the steel bearing retainer.
-Fab or modify cross member.
-Make sure the trans will accept your speedo drive.
-driveshaft mod for different length. (they can't be the same length, that would be too good. Expect $200 or so at your nearest driveshaft shop)
-You have a console now? Get out the sawzall.
This is a lot of work for this type of car. I'd trade it meself....
thanks for the input guys... i guess i'll have to wait for another car...i was only thinking about this becuase the junkyard which i use is having a $50 dollar all you can carry day soon
