93F150 R12>R134 conversion question
I am converting my R12 System to R134 and have a few questions:
Mechanic friend tells (he is going to pull vacuum and recharge for me) to replace compressor (mine is whining) accumulator & orifice tube. He said to not worry about the small amount of R12 oil left in the system. Problems?
Second - I am pricing compressors and I see two different kinds for factory installed - FS10 and SD709 - How do I know which one?
Third - My friend also told me to put 4-5 oz. of oil in the compressor and another 2 in the accumulator. Which kind do I buy (Esther, Pag46, Pag100, or PAG150)?
Thx. for all the help.
Ester is the oil that you want to use since there will at least be a residual amount of mineral oil left.
I have the same year truck and mine was an FS10.
R134a conversion has been a given since at least 1993, that's 14 years!!!
The fine points have been argued ad infinitum (to death). If he hasn't developed his preferred method by now, do you really want him working on your AC system??
If it's you who needs verification, you don't really trust your "mechanic". In that case, you need to find someone else to work on your truck that YOU feel you can trust and not have to question.
The other option is to learn how to do "it" (whatever it is) your own darn self.
If you really do "trust" your mechanic but are looking here "just in case ", Go F**K yourself and listen to your mechanic. You're really insulting the guy.
