I'm also only getting 14 mpg around town, with Michelin LTX 285/75R16 M+S. Sure would love to get 22.5 mpg on the highway; best I've seen is 19.9 mpg keeping it under 2000 RPM.

BTW, I need to remind you mileage hounds, that unless your HVAC switch is in Vent/Off/Floor you are running your AC, and that never helps.

13.2/13.7 with the camper on this weekend 71 MPH and 65 MPH.

tlocklear, I was getting about 14 @ 85mph, and maybe 16 on a good day @ 65mph. I was lucky and found the chip on Ebay for $47, with shipping. It did help my mileage quite a bit, and gave me a little more power, but not at low end, only at higher rpm. I also have a lot more diesel exhaust smell, and a little more smoke in the exhaust. It was well worth the $.

Currently, I'm getting about 15 to 15.5 mpg on short trips and 16.5 on the highway (75 mph w/ A/C on). Hope to get at least another mpg with trans rebuild and low stall billet torque converter.

Had to drop back in, I found I get better gas milage with the A/C on over 65, and it is better to have the windows open under 55.

Don't forget if you go with taller tires and don't correct the speedometer, you are covering more ground then is being recorded and makes your fuel mileage appear low. Taller tires require a correction.

Solutions

Make sure your switch is not in AC unless you need it that way.
Stock tires, or low rolling resistance tires.
No Bio Diesel, no winter fuel
3.73 Gears
6 Speed Manual
2 Wheel Drive
No Lifts
Mirrors not extended, nothing extra hanging from the truck, no bull *****, no extra lights, push bars, antennas.
Check your uppipes etc. for best airflow.

Get a Diesel VW, if you want over 40 MPG

Not much fun, but there it is.

LOL

I got 18mpg once, bone stock cruising on the hiyway (150 miles) with my family just after purchasing the truck.

Now the only times I check mileage is towing, I get about 10mpg on hilly alaskan road towing 10-14k. See sig for mods. I'd guess my truck has 3.73's.
