anyone know what make, year, this tag came off of.....top line....S 2 2 3 C
second line....2 L 7 3..........88.........4 L 0 2 ?????
any information would be of help. I picked this axle up to put under a pre-65 econoline pick-up, but not wide enough, lacks about two inches on either side....maybe off-set wheels, IF the axle is worth the effort. Thanks Paul

I do not have a listing for a S223C but my manual is a 1991.
So would think the axle was made Nov 4, 1992 at the Sterling Plant.
It is an LS rear end with a ratio of 2.73:1 with a 8.8" ring gear.
Thank you for your reply..I did not know what "L S" stood for, but now that I see it, makes sense.
I think I have been had.....I was told that it was a "Detroit locker" when I bought it, but the little voice in my head told me not to believe it. Is this axle a Dana? [I KNOW, I KNOW....all these questions. I will have to find a resource book on all the rear ends ford makes ] but until then....I have knowledgeable people such as your self, to ask. Thanks in advance for your help, it is appreciated.
this is a ford 8.8 rear axle they are inall f-150's and other they startedusing this rear somewhere around 1982 after stopping using the old standard 9" which would also be a great choice for the truck you are working on {probably what came in it}!Subford is correct on saying it is a locking or limited slip this is used by auto manufacturers because it is a generic term with no copyright infringements as Detroit Locker is a locker that is a trademark brand name
