I have a 2000 F250 4x4 with V10, the truck will start and stay idle in park and in neutral, as soon as I put it in drive it stalls, it seems to be fine in reveres<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Maybe your torque converter is not unlocking?

Hey, we're almost neighbors. I'm in Whittier.

My sons F250 4X4 diesel started doing the same thing, take your foot of the brake put in gear ,lug engine & take off to about 10mph unlock and drive normal, then started doing it only in reverse. I tested it and thinking its a sticking valve. He had been towing his jeep and got trans hot ,blow some oil out,It fixed its self after he refilled trans .engine running and in park hot oil .Well see if it stays fixed.
Somebody ealse has a post on same problem but can,t find it.

Catmac has a good point. If you can get it rolling enough so that when you throw it in gear it won't kill it, then you could run it up to temp and shift through the gears including a couple of lockup cycles, it might free itself. But around this town I don't know if you can find enough real estate to do that. You could try jacking the rear axle up too, just to let you get it in gear without killing it. I think I've read that the lockup is solenoid actuated and they can stick. It's probably not an expensive problem.

See you around town,
Bill

Have also heard of a wire under the steering wheel cover chaffing and shorting out when shift lever is moved. Does it sound like it is loading up and dieing or just turning off?
