engine washdown

I have a 01 ps 4x4 and need to wash down the motor. Would someone list the sensors that need to be covered and there location and anything else that needs to be covered. Thanks Phil

I just cover that Big A$$ filter I have and the Alt. Spray it down with Simple Green or Purple Power. Hose it off with regular house hold water pressure. I try not to over wet the connections on the wiring harnesses. Never had any problems.

Edit: I also cover the power steering pump resevoir.

I would not recommend washing the motor. I had a bad experience after a wash and I thought I had everything covered properly. I had little plastic bags all over. Rags and simple green would be better.

If you do decide to wash. Cover the top of the power steering reservoir. The vent hole on the top will allow water to enter and mix with the fluid. Then you have to replace the pump because of all the noise it starts making.

I'm sure others will have advice on this as well. I'm a simple green and rags guy now. Many on this site will say to wash away though.

Yep, cover the filter if you have an open air one. Spray simple green, let set for a few mins. Wash with water hose. You can brush the spots that have build-up on them, before washing.

I wash mine twice a year..on a cold motor I cover the alt, power steering,AFE air intake..and on the driver side fender well just below the brake booster I lay a plastic bag over them plugs..I wash that spot with electrical cleaning spray from Napa..I also get electrical grease and put a dab in all my sensors and plugs..I then soak down every inch under the hood with simple green let it soak for a bit..I then use my 1500 PSI power washer and hose her down good..and blast the real bad spots..after a couple washes the bad spots are no more any way..never ever use a steam cleaner..steam is far worse then water..steam can get into very tiny cracks and that will cause you electrical problems...this is why you wash the motor cold..never want steam..
