Chasing an issue with my ABS light and an erratic speedometer... From some searching and a quick post, it sounds like my VSS is the culprit. The suggestion was made to remove and clean, which I will try, but in the long run it's probably time for a replacement. So, two new questions:
1.) How/what do you clean this thing with? Is it just some electrical contacts, ie shoot it with contact cleaner and glob on a little dielectric grease and give it another go?
2.) NAPA can't seem to find a VSS for my 1994 that is rear-axle mounted; they keep wanting to give me one that fits on the transmission... Has anyone got a valid part number for a 1994 VSS?
Before replacing this part though, I drained and cleaned the rear axle. It improved funtion of sensor some, but was still problematic. Wipe grunge off of sensor and exciter ring inside axle. I use lithium or die electric grease on wire connection to sensor (location of sensor is subject to harsh conditions).
the VSS sensor is on the transmission.. not the rear axle... the ABS sensor on the rear axle is another sensor
i just changed mine but i dont know if my 1990 is the same for your 94..
