3rd gear stabilizer

Have an 87 F150 302 with the 4 speed. When in 3rd, it will pop out on its own.
Was told by a repair shop that the 3rd gear stabilizer is bad. Does this mean rebuild time, or is it a simple part replcement?

Syncronizer, not stabilizer. Rebuild time! It's as simple as you experience allows. If you can turn wrenches....

Popping out of gear would suggest more than a worn synchro. Worn shaft or shift fork maybe.

Thanks...was thinking synchronizer, but typed stabilizer for whatever reason.
