The Alabama summer is taking its toll on my Fords.
Wifes Explorer spung a coolant leak and my F150 is overheating at idle.
Temp is normal in stop and go traffic untill I turn on the AC then the needle slowly starts creeping into the danger zone. If I turn off the AC and start moving it goes back to normal. I read another post suggesting checking for play in the fan. When I grab a blade and try to wiggle there is no noticable play. Coolant is green and full. 110k miles.
Any other suggestions sure would be appreciated.
I'd go with the fan clutch too. Just because it dosen't have any play, doesn't mean it is working "properly". Do you hear it engage after sitting at a moderately long stoplight? I live in West TN and our temps have been in the 3 digit area all week, mine seems to stay engaged while in traffic. If you can't hear it (sounds like a jet engine under the hood), it ain't working in my opinion.
Thanks everybody,
Spent the weekend putting a radiator in the wife's Explorer, so I didn't get around to doing anything to my truck.
My first thought was the clutch fan too, trust me I've replaced a few in my Fords over the years. The only thing about mine is seems real tight when I crank up it starts right up and when I kill the ignition it stops immediately. Is there any other way to test it? I would hate to throw parts at it if you know what I mean.
