everywhere you look theres ads for people to hire. the fast food industry has permanent signs out for hire, alot of them are hiring 12 yrs olds. I seen a paper boy the other day, he couldn't of been more than 7 yrs old. a segment on the news tonight said all the trades programs are down 40-50%. I'm in construction and its getting bad, some companies are hiring from over seas.where the heck did everybody go. 3yrs ago my daughter(a nurse) couldn't get a full time job, now there short so many nurses, she said they work with 2 or 3 short every shift, and beg her to work over time. what do thinks up with this?
everyone has their hearts set on IT jobs computers technology and the like and noone but the illegals want to work the jobs that pay less than $150K a year and when new trucks are like $50K and houses are starting at 500K to 1.5million how can we blame em?
heck, it took me 6 months to find work, i guess its all about the area you live.
and the job a found isn't a dream job or anything, $9 an hour working part time maintenance in a plastic factory, i like the job, it fits my needs and the poeple are cool and flexibale for me to go to college, but disappointing as i was in 1995 working full time for $10 an hour right out of high school.
Then there are all the bums (whatever you want to call them) hanging around the downtown areas and malls looking for hand-outs. It's time they rounded them up and put them to work on all the menial jobs no one wants. They earn their meals and a bed.
then there are the jerk employers who think the employees are the equivilent of a slave and the employer feels they can put on them ther bad day abusive behavior and language all day. then they turn around after everyone always quits and has a nice excuse to hire a "legal worker" (yea right) and pay him half of what the normal pay is and won't ever give the new employee half the harrassment they were giving the american employee.
I think a lot of the trades are going to be seeing problems. As a machinist the field is a older group and the young crowd doesn't seem to go there as much anymore. I guess they don't want the jobs that are decent paying, but dirty. When they have been raised to go to college and get a good professional job some kind of look down their noses at the blue collar jobs. That is until the have to take their car in, have plumbing or electrical work done among others and then they complain about the cost of it.

You hit that on the head. I attended a Career fair, very few kids(or parents for that matter) even looked at any of the skilled trades. They all looked at engineering and/or computer jobs. I have fixed a quite a few engineer screw ups. Like it has been stated " Engineers design it but service techs make it work "
We can't find good workers in this areas. My job has a opening that starts at 40k with a company truck & benefits. We can't keerp someone on it. Its a service tech job & we have gone through 7 different guys in the 4 yrs I've been there. I can't understand it. Its the same job I do & I consider it the easiest job I've ever had.
I think a lot of young kids are a little leery of entering some of the trades, especially those associated with manufacturing - the pay is at least partially set by what they're paying in China and there's no telling how long that job will continue to exist here in the US..

As long as it don't involve high places, I'll be there tomorrow for my interview.
Oh tomorrow is Saturday. Lets make it for Monday, first thing in the morning.
I'm an early riser.
