Post 2001 5.4 oil consumption

I had to add a qt to my F-250's 5.4 to bring the oil level to max on the dipstick. Last time I checked it was in the "safe zone" (about 1000 miles?). The truck is only 8 months old with about 7500 miles. I have had 2 oil changes at the dealer so far. I have been doing some hi speed hi-way driving. Is this normal for the 5.4L?
Thanks

being 8 months old i seriously doubt that this is normal! id keep a close eye on it and if it gets any worse at all id call the dealer!

The dealer should be putting in 6 quarts of oil. That amount will put the level about mid-point of the "safe zone". You can add another 1/2 quart to fill the level to the top of the safe zone. So, if the dealership is putting the right amount of oil into the engine, you were probably only down 1/2 quart. But definitely keep an eye on it.
