Here's a picture of my first repair patch:
It's not perfect but it will work. I put the old piece on top to show a comparison. It's not the whole piece but it's hard to get a decent shot of a 54" long patch.
This was also the first time I tried out my new Hobart Handler 140 MIG. It works pretty good for just 110V. I need to get some more grinding wheels and I think I'll get some of those triangle welding magnets for easier panel alignment.
I just started playing around with a bedside and I may need his services again. It may be easier to get new bedside lowers made than rework the old ones. When this bed is done it will be like 50% original metal. Still a lot cheaper than a new one, oh wait they don't reproduce the 8 foot beds.

Nice looking work with the welder!
I had a local sheet metal shop bend up two lengths of 14-ga. to replace my lower bedsides. The PO's had welded in a piece of 1/8" steel as a new bed floor, over the old wood and a piece of 3/4" plywood, then put more plywood over the steel, and let leaves collect in it for a couple years. So the sides were corroded at least 3" up the sides and the flange was outright gone in most places. Anyway, the angles cost $35 and I ended up just bolting them in, as welding offered no real advantage (only 2 of the bolts show from the outside). Can't argue with results!

Looks nice but I was meaning the 7-8 inches below the wood floor. The top part isn't bad but there is a couple soft parts on the ledge which will be replaced.
Two other things yo look at when you get the Mag. clamps.
A good set of Vice Grip Welding Plyers amd some Copper Sheet for backing holes that need filled.
Nice looking work, talk to the metal and let it tell you what it needs.
I'd say your just a little grey. When you start changing the stance and outward appearence to move away from stock that is when we see the darkside coming out. Of course if your going for Sith Lord dark you could always drop an SBC in it.
