Ok I was browsing the internt today and I came apon some information on taking the transfer case I found (np205) and making it a twin stick. I started out just curiuse about what the advantage of it would be an how it worked. After reading about it I saw right away the advantage it would have. I kinda thought of it like my dads old dodge power wagon with a transfer case that could have high or low without puting it in 4 wheel drive. This would be great for towing and backing trailers. I found a complete kit at jkwoffroad.com I learned you can even run with just the front axle pulling and the rear in neutral. This sounds like you could really have some fun with this!!! only problem Is if I do this I know I will destroy my wimpy danna 40. Any body else have this setup? I am thinking very seriesly about buying the complete kit from jkw. O and I want my front axle to stay on coil springs so if I do destroy the front axle what can I do as an up grade so it doesn't happen agian?
That about sums it up. You have the info.
As far as the front axle goes, they front might survive, imean if you are not planning on abusing it, and you have not broken it yet, you might ba alright. No dropping the clutch in front wheel drive and it won't be any more likely to break.
If you are going to upsize tires (over 37 inches) then you might have a problem, but that would happen without a twin stick anyway.
If you are just looking for 2wd low range, just leave the hubs in "free" and engage 4wd low, and you can back the trailer up essentually in 2wd low range.
Yeah I understand the whole idea of leaving he hubs unlocked to have 2wd low range. I use to do that with an old truck to do burnouts. I think it was cheating but I don't care. I think it would be cool just have two different sticks for the 4 wheel drive. It would make a few people scratch there head if you know what I mean. plus I wanted to spread the word a little bit about this pretty cool setup.
Its been a round for a while. it is cool. If you like two sticks search on this site for "doublers" or double cases. That requires 3 sticks........ then you really start having fun. range box low, main case high, or range box high, and main case low, or both in low, for super low, yeah then combine with the options of the twin stick, and the trans tunnel looks like a porcupine.
