5.4L Engine Problem - Strange!
Got a 1998 F150 with a 5.4L with 60,000 that has performed perfectly until now. Suddenly, the engine started to run rough, and within a few seconds, a loud very knock started coming from the engine...almost like an exhaust noise from underneath one of the valve covers. Stuck valve? Worse? Truck is not driveable...not sure what to do next.
Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Shop says that a cylinger "swallowed something" and pushes the spark plug right out of the cylinder. I assume he means a valve. If confirmed, says a total rebuild is the solution, since repairing one cylinder is too difficult. Is he right? Any thoughts? Has anyone else ever seen this problem with this engine? The engine is out of warranty, but this should not happen to an engine that has been well maintained with only 60,000 miles. Would Ford step up?
If I am understanding right you dropped a valve. with 60k Ford will not do much, complete engine overhaul? depending on the damage done sometimes the valve can be replaced if it did not bust the top of the piston or scar the clyinder up, either way the head must come off and inspection done to see what happened if you are lucky you may just need a new head only . A complete rebuild of a 5.4 liter is costly get a second opinon if they say rebuild and if this is not a ford dealer be cautious very few people know how to work on the new triton engines more so when it comes to complete overhaul& teardown good luck

Can the DOHC Navigator engine be easily put in this Truck?
Regards!
