Well it finally happened and the ole' girl has blown a gasket. Started running hot and drinking coolant just a few days ago. The question I have is after repair at the dealer how has performance been with others who have had to have this fixed? Luckily I am under wanrranty having only 90,000 kms on my truck but do I expect the same thing in another 90,000 or does this repair make it the way they should have been built in the first place? I'm all ears. Let me know. Thanks.
i hope someone with more knowledge chimes in, but i'm pretty sure that in 05 they solved the crappy head gasket/head bolt problems that us 04 guys have. maybe not, bump for more input.
Sorry, I didn't mean to get your back up. OK lets see. The tires are 1 size bigger than stock. No big deal I think. And I have a cap on it and a satelite radio added. I think that should sufice all additions from stock. All I asked is has the dealer repairs of head gaskets been effective and does this solve future issues or will this be a recuring issue from now on.

It appeared more prone to the 03-04 years with weeker bolts and gaskets and there may of been some early 05's as well.
If properly repaired under ford warranty by the dealer there generly has not been repeat failures thus I would not be too concerned. I had mine repaired and no problems so far. Many on here beleive if an 03 is running properly is the better 6L to own. I am of the same opinion as my 03 has always out performed any of my companies various 6L's when we were all in stock form and recently non stock as well.
If your dealer will allow you to upgrade to ARP bolts (significantly better) with you supplying them (about $500) this would be the best thing to do for the 6L for ensuring the best clamping of the heads. However many dealers as in my area would not do it under warranty and will void warranty. However it never hurts to ask as you may get lucky.
FYI - I had 112,000km when my head gaskets and bolts went.
Would it be acceptable to replace the head bolts one-by-one without removing the heads?
Or would it be better to replace the head gasket and install new bolts?
I ran, without ever knowing or detecting any performance problems, with the vanes stuck in the open position for over one year while both commuting and pulling my 12k # toy hauler, and the only issue that I experience during this time was blowing the IC hoses off from time to time. This was solve when I was forced to have the 06E17 recall performed, which the tech kindly showed me a hairline crack in the IC that he said was caused by the over-boost condition, which both the IC and Turbo were covered by the waranty as well.
Should I now expect the head gasket to fail as a result of the over-boost condition?
My six-oh was built 1-2-03 and I have kept it bone stock, including the OEM tire size

factory engine is bolts. it would not be a good idea to just change one bolt or stud at a time because it would have uneven clamping pressure and probably warp the head more. i have heard of some people doing this but i will advise noone to do it that way.

Thanks BowTieHatr. I just sent you a PM on this topic, and I have another question: Is it possible to remove the heads with the cab over?
I'm hoping that the answer is yes.
i do heads all the time in frame. its not terrible just aggravating for the rear bolts. if you stud the engine, the you will have to pull the engine or cab.
