I have an 04 F350 with the extendable tow mirrors and I was looking to mount my CB antenna on one of the horizontal mirror posts but I can't find a clip or attachment to do so. Were is everyone that has a CB mounting their antennas on the 250's and 350's? I have a topper so mounting in the box isn't what I want to do, please attach a photo if you can. Thanks
There really is not anything "off the shelf" to install one on the trailer tow mirrors. I think this is largely due to two facts: A) you would need to run a secondary wire somewhere to get a ground, and B) questionable long term integrity of the mirror arm(s) (after all, there is a lot of force pushing on an antenna at highway speeds).
There's a mount that mounts at the door jamb along the top. Comet makes it and has a "fold over" feature. It is mainly used for 144-440 Mhz. not 27Mhz. Still a good idea and acessable. HRO sells them.
Bigdawg, an option I used was a clean small cotton rag under the magnetic base to keep the paint intact. If you do use a magnetic base be sure to run a small(12-14 gauge) wire from the base(eylet connector around the bottom of ant) and wire tie it to the coax. Run that wire to a good clean ground. Many times if your running a larger radio or a built radio off of a magnetic base the radio can't pull a strong enough ground through the magnet and paint. Be safe and ground it anyway, you can never have enough grounds with a cb set up.
I mounted mine on the side of my headache rack. I can get you a picture tomorrow if you want it, but if you don't have a headache rack it won't do you any good. I've seen others mounted on the bed rail near the cab if they don't have a toolbox.
Thanks for the comments F350-6, ag30265, and wreckit72. I appreciate them all. Just can't quite bring myself to plopping a $40.00 magnetic mounted antenna on top of a $50,000 dolar truck. Perhaps you really have to have the CB to allow yourself to do it. Does anyone know how the through the glass antennas work?
i was looking into the glass antennas and all the resreaching i have done on the net does not seem to support that idea for your cb. from what i read you will not get that good of a single or be able to reach out there that far. if you are not looking to put any holes in your 50 thousand truck and you dont feel safe using a magnetic antenna mount then i guess your only opption is the glass mount but it wont be close to the same as the other antennas. maybe you can fab something that would fit in one of the rall holes on top of your bed and mount the antenna on the fab pices so you wont have to make any holes in your truck. i was thinking of them big black boxs with the i on top for tieing down stuff in the bed, that you place in the bed rail holes.
If you have a cap on your truck and don't want to mount anything to your truck you could use one of these mounted to the cap. http://www.wilsonantenna.com/ngk.htm

APG,your 04 and my 02 are the same body style, when i bought my02 i had a HUGE slide in truck camper, with the bunk over the cab and the camper body wider than the truck that left not many way's to mount, what i did was got a "TRUNK" mount bracket with a K 40 antenna, mounted it on the driver's side of the hood aprox 1 1/2 - 2 inche's from the bottom between the hood and fender (at the glass end) ,it look's great and work's slicker than snot,it is the thin wire antenna, not the thicker fiberglass type,i've sence traded up to a 32 ft tripple slide 5th wheel and it look's and work's soooo good i've not moved it,the coax just goes through the fire wall, removed one of the rubber plug's and ran the coax then just put the plug back, vary easy install. forgot,be sure to set your SWR before you talk on you radio, you will save your final's and will get out farther in range, try to get it down to 1.5-1 or lower,1-1 being ideal.
