instrument cluster had gone dead
The instrument cluster has stopped working on my 2000 f-550. engine will still start and stop fine but it will not respond to the throttle. it also seems to shift fine, you can hear it going into gear still. please help

Hmmm...
I just had Ford replace my instrument cluster in my 03 F250. My fuel gauge wasn't operating normally and as a result, the whole dash cluster was replaced.
In my case, everything else worked.
BBC, if it were the batteries, wouldn't he have problems starting?

Truck started fine and 1/2 way to taking my son to school the cluster went dead, then cam alive... then radio died... but truck still ran.
Got home and could not restart.
Had to charge batteries with external charger just to restart and get to local mechanic.
First step... get a free alternator and battery test at local garage or auto parts store.... then you will know... maybe it is the cluster... but in my case it was not.

I had the same problem. Wire in steering column that runs to the od switch wore out and was shorting to column. It blows the fuse that controls the dash. truck can start and run but not accelerate. common problem with ford trucks
