I have been searching this forum for a while now and can't find a definitive answer to this question. How do you get the CRANK timing gear off the crankshaft of a 300. I have already successfully removed the cam gear. My repair manual says that a steering wheel removal tool will work but I don't see how. I already have the metal gears but am putting the comp cams set on that I got with my cam kit. There is no way to get a puller behind it and no holes to go through it. I saw another user who used " heat, a clean pickle fork, and a few hits from a hammer" but I was hoping there was a better way. Any ideas?
That is what the Haynes repair manual I have says as well, but there are no holes in my the crank gear on my engine. The timing set I got from comp cams doesn't have them either. Thanks for your help anyway. The people on this site have been the best source of info on my truck I have found!!!
Ya got me. The Ford factory manual shows the gear with two holes. Wonder what the PO put on there. Although Ford IS known for their "better ideas" every three weeks or so...
Well I used 2 pieces of angle iron and welded bolts to the outside and with the help of a steering wheel puller the gear came off. Hope this helps the next person who has the same problem.
