I am setting the timing on my 76 360. I set the timing mark at 12° BTDC with the dizzy at #1 with the vacuum advance pluged. However, when I reconnect the vacuum advance, the idle increases. I have an Edelbrock 1406 and the advance is on the ported side (passenger side at bottom of carb). Do I need to adjust the mixture screws to get the vacuum to shut off at idle or what? All help would be appreciated.
The bottom ports on Edel's as most carbs are continous vacuum. You need to put your advance line on the nipple thats about half way up the carb. Haven't looked at an edelbrock lately to know for sure but the bottom one is always continous vacuum.
Oh my 390 handles them just fine. I can smoke the tires up through 2nd. I do alot of interstate so i need the extra mile. It was more of an experiment at first but I like them. I can't imagine how much I'd be payin for tires if I had 3.50's or so.
Well, I have the vacuum problem fixed. I adjusted the fuel mixture and idle speed to fix it. However, the idle is a little bit lopey. I will vary between 700 and 800 RPMs. I was think of backing the timing off to 10° or 8°. What do yall think?
In Gear, E brake on, wheels chocked. Remove the vac advance line an block it. Set the timing mark to what sounds good (6-12º)via light, idle speed to 650rpm +-50, then start messing with the gauge.
