Importing Vehicles

The wife and I are looking at moving back to Canada and now the process begins of figureing out what stays and what goes.

To start, I am trying to figure out what is involved in importing vehicles into Canada. I would like to import my 01 F150 SuperCrew, her 02 Chev Caviler, and my 05 Honda Shadow (motorcyle). Mainly because we will pay them off before we leave.

I found a couple website, but I am still unclear on a few things.

1. Will I have to pay GST when I import them?
2. The Spedo and Odometer are in Miles (KPH is small print), do I have to change that out?
3. The truck has Duals on it (cats still there, no mufflers). Do I need to change that?

Is there anything else I need to think about. I was looking at values, and if it is going to cost me a few grand per vehicle to import, then it isn't worth it. But If I can do it for a few hundred, then it will be.

Any thought would be appreciated.

Thanks
Russ

1. Maybe, probably not though.
2.No, my truck is MPH only and it passed safety, so I'm assuming importing would not be different.
3.No.

Jeez man, we're Canada not California, we don't have that many regulations.

You would be surprized. When I moved here to the U.S. from Alberta, all I needed for my old 82 was a letter from the Manufacturer saying it met standards back then. That is all the U.S. required, that and keep it registered in my name for 6 months before selling or pay an import fee.

Now that I want to move back to Alberta it seems there is lot more involved now that I am moving back. I just wanted to make sure it was worth it before I tried to bring back vehicles.
