Hello, New to the board but not Ford Trucks. I have a 2001 f-150 with the 4.6 linked to an auto tranny. The problem is on cold statstart up only. For the first 1/2 mile she stumbles when I ask her for our lady of acceleration. No backfire, or bogging, just a 2 or 3 second delay and then that 4.6 catches her breath and rumbles. Strange part is this behavior only happens in the morning upon inital start up. The rest of the day she runs fine no matter how many times I shut her down and re-start.
Took off all the coil packs this weekend and coated with di-eletric grease....did not solve the problem - but good prevent maint anyway...right?
Anyone else experence this problem? Most important..does anyone have the cure?
My truck just starting doing the same thing a week and a half ago. Only for the first mile or so, after that she seems to run fine. Took it in to the shop last week and they ran codes. They say its fine, no problems. I have a 97 supercab with the 4.6 V-8 longbed. I wish I knew what the problem was, I will keep searching for an answer. I do have a clunk coming from under the cab when taking off from a slow start. Had them check that too. You guesed it, nothing wrong. But I feel it and hear it every day after she gets warmed up.
How many miles do you have on your truck? I have a 97 that was doing the same thing. I have 125,000 miles on it. After changing plugs, wires, mass airflow sensor, etc... I was in getting an oil change and they had a special to flush the tranny for 50.00. I did it and it started to run perfectly. I called the local Ford dealer and he told me that there are two sensors in the tranny that control how rich or lean the gas is and when the transmission fluid gets dirty, the sensors don't work properly. Give it a try.
