I am changing my side job from selling firewood to doing tree trimming/removale. Is it good to have insurance and to be bonded. Or is being BONDED just a fluff in advertisement? Eigther way I know I need insurance. And if anybody has any advice on price quoting that would be helpful. I am shooting low ball prices but still making money until I get the hang of it.

Do you have any experience doing this much or is it just something you picked up on? Just like anything there is a right way and a wrong way. You will have to be insured, especially being new to the game. What does bonded mean? I am Canadian so I am a little slow.
Also, for a TON of great information you can check out another site I am on as well www.arboristsite.com Great guys who will give you good information. If they are hard on you it's because they want you to learn. Also check out the Injuries section of that site. Safety is #1!
Good luck. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask.

P.S. Oh, also look into the ISA (International Society of Arboriculture). Good group to be a member of and learn the latest industry standards.

Bonding is an insurance usually refers to a surety guarantee that a job will be financially covered if said work is not complete on time, satisfactory to the person or persons and or company contracted by or done as per specifications.
Bonding companies base your bond amount and pricing on x amount of years financhal proffit / loss. New companies with no or little years financhal proffit / loss pay a higher premium and get a lower bond. Then a company with 10 years of proffit and no bond judgements against them.

Yes. Many companies get bonded and insured for one year. Then keep using the old paperwork. The most important insurance for a house owner is the workmen's comp in case someone gets injured while on their property.

A minimum of $4,000+ a year here.

The most dangerous job in American is logging and tree work. 121 deaths per 100,000 workers and over 40,000 people get hurt with chain saws per year.
Thanks for the info B-12! I have been selling firewood for five years now and I am getting real tired of it. I have had several chances at tree jobs over the last five years and turned them down. Tree trimming has been something I have done for the last 7 or 8 years on my own property. When I first moved in I had a dead oak and several trees to be trimmed. I guess I wouldn't call myself an ammeture but not expierenced in tree work. I have read up on the propper techiques in tree trimming and felling. As a boy I was always climbing trees. It kind of just feels natural. Not that I am a monkey. Just a good ol country boy. I have not had any real big jobs yet. There is a job at a ladies house where the trees are hanging over her house and pool. I am going to rent a lift to do the job. I quoted her $1700, I think she thought that was high.
